Not really a lease but the buy to own contracts.
Usualy at the 2 yr mark you get to upgrade and keep paying the surcharge or pay a little more to own the phone outright.
Phones always start having battery issues at the 2 yr mark.

This is by design. Planned obsolescence.
Your average cell phone battery can be charged 350 to 400 times on average before losing significant charge or otherwise experiencing failure.
A full charge is considered 0 to 100. So if you drain it to 50 and charge it to 100 it's considered a half a charge.
Based on this the way most people charge their phones they will begin to see degredation around the 2 year mark.
