As a pharmacist, I agree. We rely on that agency for everything. We trust them and we have to trust them to keep our products safe and effective. We can't trust Big Pharma. We need that third-party regulator. We tell our patients and customers what they're getting is safe and effective because that's what FDA says. We put our reputations and licenses on the line based on the information they provide.
This isn't something that'll be fixed with an apology. "Oops, muh bad." isn't going to cut it for those of us who have advised and encouraged thousands of people to use these products based on the data they supplied us. We weighed risk and benefit based on those data. We told patients they would benefit because that's what their data showed.
If they knowingly lied about the data and said it was safer than it was, there needs to be jail time. This is the kind of crime that should result in perp walks, trials, and jail time. It's the kind of crime that should result in a political house cleaning, mass firings, and the replacement of their leadership teams. This is a career-ending scandal for all of those cowardly white-collars who rubber stamped things they were supposed to reject. There needs to be cultural change and new transparency laws enacted. We need to have a very serious discussion about PDUFA (the Prescription Drug User Fee Act) that funds the FDA by asking pharma companies to pay FDA's budget so they can employ the people to evaluate their new drug applications. Having Big Pharma pay to evaluate their own products is clearly creating a conflict of interest and the safeguards in the original law have failed spectacularly.
And Pfizer needs to be run out of business. This isn't the first time they've been caught lying about the safety of their products. They hold the record for the biggest suit against them for lying. They didn't stop. They did it again. I've seen some of Pfizer's data. They're guilty as sin. I haven't seen the equivalent for Moderna, but I'm certain it's there because their promises were so similar. Perp walks, trials, bankruptcy, reckoning.

Spot. On.
Thank you for the absolute clarity of your words.
The precedent is clear if we step back and look at Merck, Pfizer, Moderna, and more.
THEY DO NOT FEAR FALSIFYING STUDIES
This isn’t the first time - yes - an escalation, perhaps.
It’s no different that Banks Laundering Drug Money knowing that if they get caught it’s a slap on the wrist and a simple “cost of business”
Jail time. Anyone who was involved in this jail time. Just as there should have been epic jail time for what Merck did with VIOXX. Merck didn’t just lie - they conspired actively and really didn’t pay for what they did IMO.
It’s clear that either our Gov sides with We The People and our health or these businesses.
The fact Purdue Pharm has any access to their net worth is saying everything
I feel for you. You are in a really tough, untenable place. I have friends who KNOW pharmacists who have been like, "I can't completely trust/recommend these poisonous shots." It must be a horrible spot to be in...praying for you.

Jail time? How about executions? They are complicit in mass murder.
