I think its a Z, something that can be sprayed with a spray can in 30 seconds. It was obviously something they picked hours before invading so the enemy couldn't easily spoof it.
Its really a rather smart and nicely low tech way of doing IFF when most of the equipment you are using, is also used by the enemy.
Which is ALSO something to remember. All those "Russian atrocity" clips can just as easily be Ukrainian forces.
Logic presented was that on keyboard, cyrillic letter й is located on the same key as q. Turn it 90° and you get Z. Seems a bit of a strech to me, but I've always been puzzled how people find/read comms. I'd see it more like reference to Zorro :D
Whatever is going on, its not what the American media says
No Z means troops for the eastern front. Z in a square means they are stationed in Crimea
'Запад' (zapad) means west; east is 'восток' (vostok).
I know, I speak fluent Russian. Unrelated.
Anyone else see the Spartan on the magazine in his rifle?
Could be nothing, but this photo looks like things are pointed in the right direction....
high doubt

What's the logic behind 'Z = Q' ? There is also no 'Q' in the Russian alphabet.

I guess we'll find out in 3 days time... I've learnt the hard way not to get my hopes up with datefagging.
The punisher logo, if true, does look promising though.
