Russia is far, far freer than the United States. There are a few sites that are blocked, and they're open about that fact, which makes it look like they're this big bad censorship regime, but if you want the part of the Internet the deep state isn't directly operating, you can get it as long as they'll serve it to you. GAW will serve it to me, there's nothing here that Russia feels it needs to guard against, so it's open.
I'm in the Moscow oblast (province) in a smaller urban area, not Moscow. We have several children, so yes it was hard to move, but we all are so glad we did.
Costs are much lower, and outside the cities they are much much much lower.
I would definitely recommend starting in a place with some amenities to adjust before diving into a super-rural landowner situation.

Absolutely, I just joined the channel. Thanks for that.
Do you speak Russian or can you get by using english? Do they hate Americans?

Learning Russian slowly. It is necessary outside Moscow. My children do a quite good job at helping out with the language. They definitely don't hate Americans, but now that the conflict has gotten more pronounced I make sure to show support for Russia so I don't wreck people's day.
It's a fight for the younger generation here too. A lot of mourning of the loss of McDonald's, argggh…
