Local news is saying that the water is low in the bay. This is false information. I mean sure maybe a foot or two lower. If the bay was that low on water I would have no water at my pier. Now I haven’t measured it but looking out side the river is at normal
Levels for this time of year. So if the wind or a storm “pushes” the water out and we get a couple feet lower then normal. I’ll all the sudden start to get a beach at my bulkhead. At my bulkhead I normally have 2 feet of water at low tide and 10 feet of water at the end of my pier.
That channel in the area the ship is stuck is normally 50+ feet let’s say it draughts 10 to 12 meters that’s insinuating it’s 14 to 20ish feet low.
That would mean my pier would be at negative 2 at the end. The magothy river would be empty in 95% empty. The Chesapeake bay would be 80 or more percent empty. Other then the channels the bay is fairly shallow.
Still not sure what’s up but the water level is not the issue. They said the water level will be back up by Thursday. This doesn’t make sense at all when a storm pushes water out it normally lasts a day not 4 days. The wind stops the water returns it doesn’t keep going going just for the hell of it
I thought it was interesting that the National Weather Service issued a "Low Water Advisory" yesterday, in effect for the Bay, a series of its feeder tributaries, down to the upper Outer Banks of NC. They didn't just make it up -- it's a legit marine hazard issued by NWS -- however, I've never heard one issued my entire life. This whole story stank to me in the first place -- but your on-the-ground reporting and observations pretty much cement that assessment in my head. Really appreciate you sharing your insights here.
I cannot thank you enough. So, obviously no surprise to anyone here, the media is lying once again....question is why? I live around a lake community, I can picture what you are painting and it makes sense. Thank you again. There is no replacing eyes on crap these days, since we can't trust anyone in the government or media to speak any sort of truth. Later Fren.
I mean, you can't truly trust this person you've replied to either. No verification they actually live there at all. No verification they have a pier or do boating. Not to mention it's 1 person who lives on else sounds like a tributary river or something not in the actual bay, and at least a certain distance from the bay itself. Just because someone posted "on the ground" information here in GAW doesn't mean they're telling the truth or interpreting the situation correctly. We've all been wrong plenty of times for any number of reasons. Just playing devil's advocate here.
Ask youself this. A. What possible motivation would someone have to engage about a discussion about the height of the water? B. I don't give a fuck about this, we all know something stupid is happening, if people can't see that then that is their problem. C. I'm not fucking stupid. I've been at this for close to 20 years. I'm curious, BUT, unless I'm going to DO something with this info, pass along, post, or whatever, it';s just a data point. D. I'm not going top spend every waking moment of my life being suspicious of every single little syllable coming out of someones mouth. E. How can I trust you.
Thank you very much. Quite interesting. What you know? One hell of a lot more than any freaking media. Thank you. I appreciate you taking time.
