This may be a good time to learn an important skill that provides a product or service in high demand. I am all for keeping cash alive.
However, if SHTF and banks are shut down, power shut down, internet shut down, gas disappears, etc we will need to resort to BARTERING.
The best way to barter is to offer something in high demand. If you start with essential, life providing skills, at the very least you can take care of yourself and your family.
For example, learn to:
garden
hunt
fish
can and bottle
store product to avoid spoiling
sew, including with an awl
camp
ride horses
raise livestock
be a carpenter
build shelters
make clothing
make shoes
quilt/yarn, etc
There are many more techniques. These are life skills. Even if you start them as a hobby this year, these could prove to be essential in life if SHTF. If you are good at them, you can barter for the things you need.
If you are good at them, you can sell them for cash in the meantime.
I think it is essential that we get back to MADE IN AMERICA anyways, so we may as well start with the essentials. I would much rather buy products with cash that are made locally than buy cheap sh*t from China or elsewhere.
I just knew those foxfire books would be valuable someday.
So much knowledge has been forgotten, and the flame of self-sufficiency has waned in our society. Past time for a revival, in body mind and spirit. At 60 it will be a challenge, but hey, I'm not near as dumb, impulsive, are distracted as I was in my youth. Happy trails, Cowboy
I looooove bartering!! I inherited a bunch of sewing notions from my husbands Grama, buttons, thread, zippers and lots more!! I’m keeping the whole box saved away somewhere safe, just in case I need to do some mending or trading with someone who’s interested (:
I have been ringing this bell for years: If/when SHTF, people are going to realize how important quality when it comes to clothing and shoes. Seamstresses (especially ones who can work with denim) and cobblers are going to find themselves in demand again when things begin to flip around and we start building back up.

This is the way!
Good for you, u/Yeetthedems 👈🏻
Add another hobby or two and you can set up your own bartering store!
I have a handful of things I’m skilled at! The blessing of being homeschooled gave me the ability to learn a plethora of hobbies! :D
That's awesome. You'll be in high demand!
We aren't too far off from the walking dead. People still wearing masks are pretty much zombies.
Watch out for them!
