Poor guy. Didn't realize how deep the lies were and died thinking he was fighting for freedom of others, while he was really just fighting in a regional conflict that he should have never been involved with and that he had no real understanding of.
Likely had a good heart to put himself out there like that, but people need to get smarter about who they trust.
Good heart? No idea. A sniper trained to kill without a war. Plus he looks muddle eastern and the name Wali? Bad decisions have consequences and when his famy find out putin was killing our slave masters tjey should be embarrassed. Every body thought this would be like fighting ISIS.
Assuming the guy thought he was going over to eliminate bad guys and help the civilians, which he probably did because of the media, he had a lot of heart.
You're right though. I've seen it a lot. All these people acting like they're going over to fight cavemen (which is further reenforced by the media acting like Ukraine is winning), only to find themselves no longer on a side of total weapons superiority and realizing they are either fighting uphill or at least at peer levels.
Nobody would think this idiotic stuff without the media. If you asked the guy a year ago if he would sign up to fight Russia on their home court the answer would have surely been way different.
I'm just curious, does our military even train our troops to fight against a near-peer or peer level or superior adversary anymore? Do we even have the capability and experience and training to go up against a world power anymore? I mean yeah we have absolute fucking naval superiority just because we're blessed with such amazing geography but when was the last time we actually went to war against a country that could realistically fight back?
