Yep, that's exactly what I figured too after I calmed down from being kinda pissed.

Not only did Sean hate shooters, but he hated consoles too, and they literally had him playing a console shooter in the movie.

Its because COD was more mainstream and would be more relatable to the layman

The choice was between COD and Battlefield.
