Why not let people decide what vehicles they want based on their research, conscience, budget and practicality? This would be a market based feedback approach. Probably a practical mix of vehicles will develop for the prevailing situation.
Otherwise it's just communist stupidity producing a brittle system. (which I know is their actual plan)
That doesn't sound very communistic... Can't be a communist if you don't control every aspect of everything.
Every car will be an electric car until people realize electric cars are like cheap printers: ink cartridges and replacement batteries cost more than the original purchase.
Every electric car will become abandoned.
One of these days someone will invent a zero point energy device and install it in a car. It will run forever without the need to charge. Then watch the world change.
That person will be murdered quicker than those 10,000 naturopaths who cured cancer.
Unless open sourced and released to the entire world same day. Not even Hillary can kill everyone.
Hillary says, "Hold my beer"
I will find a way to produce my own gas/diesel and I'll continue driving my V8 shitboxes no matter what. Electric cars are nothing more than a rich guy job y to me. They are not sustainable...
They will tax by the mile.
Calif has already decided to install GPS units in cars to track miles driven. Absolutely no chance for abuse there, right?
Knowing how the govt overreaches, they'll just lump the road tax into your electric bill. You'll pay 50 cents a KWH, and 2/3rds will be road tax.
They are bringing in a maintenance tax for electric cars
Keep in mind this about electric cars, there is no such thing as an old cheap clunker. You can buy a 1985 Buick for $1000 and drive the hell out of it. But old batteries just don't hold up. Think of the battery life of an old laptop. Not gonna work.
Lithium has doubled in price in 2022.
Dave, X22.
How about paying for roads with a tire tax? I don’t know, I just pulled that out of my “estimator” but tires have a mileage lifespan and would be easy to tax “per mile” without becoming too cumbersome.
California already instituted an electric car tax to compensate for the lack of gas tax.
