1 Corinthians 1:27
King James Bible
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”
Liking that verse! 💯
...I am living proof that it is true....
Luke 9:23
Douay–Rheims Bible
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
John 3:30-35
King James Version
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Gospel Jn 8:21-30
Douay–Rheims Bible
Jesus said to the Pharisees: “I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?” He said to them, “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “What I told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you in condemnation. But the one who sent me is true, and what I heard from him I tell the world.” They did not realize that he was speaking to them of the Father. So Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM, and that I do nothing on my own, but I say only what the Father taught me. The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to him.” Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.
My fun game I like to play when people start hassling me about the 10 Commandments and the 7 Deadly sins is to ask if they can even name one of the virtues.
So far I've never lost that game.
You want to REALLY blow their minds? Explain to them how all of the commandments are also promises.
"You're gonna have to work for it but you will not steal because I will provide for you..."
?? "because you made me THE only God in your heart and because you love me with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength (Psst! And I will help you find the work that you love!)"
"You will not covet anyone or anything because I will give you the BEST in your life..."
?? "because you made me THE only God in your heart and because you love me with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength (And HEY! I will help you find the love of your LIFE!)"
"You will honor your Father and Mother and all of your ancestors and all of the gracious and generous people that have helped you grow up..."
?? "because you made me THE only God in your heart and because you love me with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength (And by following My promises, you and people like you will live in your homeland for AGES)
See how this works? Get the first one right and everything else becomes 'promises'.
You just blew my mind. Very insightful, thank you for sharing.
All praise and glory to the King of Kings. And I am DELIGHTED when you are blessed. AMEN!
That's a nice way to look at it. Also, these things come to pass because God wins.
Amen! Couldn'a said it better. PRAISE HIM!
Thank you, I needed that this morning. Amen
1 Peter 1:8 KJV Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory
Thank you. This is powerful.
Agreed. Need to remember (and live by) this one.
Salvation is provided, not earned, but you must take it. I.e. confess Christ is Lord and to live your life as such.
I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but through me.
For God so loved the world that he gave his his only begotten son, so that all that believe in him may not perish, but may have eternal life.
God gives us salvation but we have to take it to matter.
Statement is incorrect without sin, we would need salvation. It’s completely about sin. We are all born sinner’s. It has everything to do with sin. Yes we are in this world, I need a savior. That is the highlight!
While our works themselves can’t save us, we must show our repentance through our thoughts, words and deeds. We won’t get it perfect. But that is why He came.
God is focused on everything at the same time, sin is deadly serious and God dealt with sin with His own blood reconciling humanity with the Father. To say that God is not focused on sin diminishes His sacrifice.
1 Kings 11:4-6
4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.
The righteous work is to take God at his word. He says He loves us Mong many things.
People from broken families or ones where they were abused find this very hard to accept - it took me years. You don't need to meet any standard. This old hymn says it all:
1 Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
2 Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot, to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
3 Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
4 Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Ask and it will be given: ask for faith, understanding, discernment and to be released from anything that holds you back (that may include some repentance). For Ephesians 3:18 to become reality in your life:
Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
And the Catholics reeee
Breaks my heart: they are so close, yet so far away.
