Nac is one of the on ly free radical agents that can cross into the blood brain barrier. And repair, and potentially reverse damage. Also Ginkgo Bilboba is another....amazing for the brain. Ashwaganda is supposed to be good also....but take it before bed. I hardly use the last thing...only when I am feeling especially drained

Also helps stabilize mood, reduce anxiety and depression.
However, i wouldn't call it a nootropic...
I still get plenty mushy brained. Lol
