Lots of people buy a house, move in, and then find out later that they're in an HOA.

Real estate transactions require the seller to give the buyer a copy of the CC&R's prior to closing. If the buyer choses not to read them or have someone explain it to them, then that's their fault.
Who would want to join a HOA? And who wouldn’t know they were in one?
