D is so important and critical in a multitude of bio pathway, for a wide variety of health issues. Some people go crazy on it though, D has Goldilocks dose, not to little, not to much, "just right" as it is a hormone / vitamin and completes with vit A uptake. That being said, most are deficiency and probably the underlying cause of high mortality in dark skinned people of northern hemispheres.
Iodine also has a Goldilocks does between 45-50 mg, can shut down thyroid functions. Crazy in the days of old they would give up to 350 mg. In single does. Best to fill that cup up slow.
But once you reach optimum levels, excess expires (respiration, salivating, perspiration, urination) and leave a (coat of armor) external defenses to attack pathogens on contract, before they can infiltrate the cell.
However, since it's a halogen higher orders halogens cancel it out and or compete with the uptake sites. Here the list
The halogen elements are
fluorine (F), (added to the water)
chlorine (Cl), (added to water, used to clean foods, clothes, pools)
bromine (Br), (added to bakery)
iodine (I),
astatine (At),
tennessine (Ts).
Iodine sublimes (evaporates) so iodized salt is a joke, RDA just bear minimum to prevent goiters at best.
I could go on and on, but as i live in the boonies and cellphone is only access it tedious at best.
I've heard that having sufficient iodine / iodides may help the body remove toxic fluorides. Because iodine can't react with the fluorides, then perhaps it detoxes by occupying the uptake sites when it get a chance and blocking any fluoride ions which happen to be mobile at that time, thereby flushing fluoride ions as they rotate on and off uptake sites.
Yes iodised salt isn't enough.
A fren here suggested to be careful with ramping up iodine as it could initiate Hashimotos or similar autoimmune attack on the thyroid. According to her it also can upset your thyroxine levels too and get you too hyped.
Gotta be sensible and listen to your body
Another fren here, u/tewdryg has pointed out to me in comments that we are all likely to be boron deficient.
You ARE dialed in.

Hope it helps.
Good info.
