So if he lost hundreds of thousands of followers, makes you wonder how many Trump had suppressed. Is it possible that Trump had way more followers than they “showed” before they took down his page?

Absolutely. No doubt they've been manipulating A LOT of things.

Many Twatter personalities, like Catturd2 and, I believe, James Wood, posted about regularly (and 'mysteriously") losing considerable numbers of followers. IIRC, it was after AND before PDJT was suspended/banned.
