Cooking oil is almost impossible to store long term and as a necessary source of fatty acids in our diets is something that ya need to have.
I beta tested my Piteba oil press last night with great results. I made flaxseed oil (aka linseed oil) to season some cast iron with but you can press any oil bearing seed or nut and even dried avocado and coconut pieces to get those for use as cooking oils.
Fwiw, you need a sturdy table as some force is required when turning the crank at times.
I squeezed 3 tblsp of flax seeds for about 5-10 ml of oil in about 10 minutes time after preheat.
There are Indian and Chinese made knockoffs but i spent the 140 bucks for the original Netherlands Piteba which was cheapest at Wise Men Trading Company out of Georgia, whom I have dealt with in the past.
Cool idea. I'll have to get me one.
Go you! Prep that oil.
What is all this?? Oil press. Is he pressing Kalamata olives, or what??
I am pressing flax seed in the photo but it will do almost any oil bearing seed or nut with proper prep
That's pretty neat. I had never thought about that before. As far as lasting vegetable oils are concerned, both peanut and olive have very long shelf life.
Both of which you can also make if you have access to the materials...
I was looking at peanut oil yesterday. 3 gallons for $61!
