I was 18 and nervously waiting for my prom date to come downstairs.

To make conversation with her father, I said, "I like that grandfather's clock, did you make it yourself?"

"Yes I did.....dovetailed all the joints and cut it by hand.....the HARD way."

After a few minutes of silence.....that's a nice painting on the wall, did you...."

"Yes, I painted that, mixed my own paint and built the frame.....the HARD way...."

Finaly....my date came down the stairs, looking beautiful and radiant....as she

came down, I looked at her father......

'Yup" he said......"standing up in a canoe."
