Many people point to either Gone With The Wind (“frankly my dear, I don’t give a d***”) or the use of the F-word in MASH in more modern times. I haven’t researched them enough to see how commie those movies were.
Came to say this. My grandmother told me how scandalous it was when that line was in the movie.
Edit: On tv, Bart Simpson saying “Eat my shorts” was pretty big. Just like males/fathers are now portrayed as buffoons, I think prior to that kids in tv were portrayed as smart alecs to parents with no repercussions and a nice laugh track to let us know it was funny instead of unacceptable. Slippery slope.
When they went from the Hayes Code to the current rating system. That opened the door to swearing, nudity, and graphic violence. Used to be a ton of rules under the Hayes Code: men and women couldn’t be shown in a bed together, gunshots had no blood, bad guy always had to get caught.
Yeah the list of things that were forbidden is pretty interesting to reflect on and why each of them were chosen. Miscegenation is one, “white slavery” is another, incest. The heroine couldn’t be shown kissing the heavy in a passionate way. It started because churches thought the unregulated movies were turning into a corrupting influence on society back in the ‘20s. I think it was Clara Bow (?) who had a famous swimming scene where you could see her nipples through her bathing suit. Those pre-Code movies are interesting because they still have that old school morality compared to today, but they were pushing the line on what could be shown. With the Hayes Code and the 1930s, that’s when the Casablanca-style movie morality you are thinking of comes in. Those movies still have the same adult themes and subjects, but they had to dance around it, leave a lot more to imagination, or use euphemisms.
Why make an issue of it? Whupy listen to some pastor? What gives him the right to say what is a swear word and what isn't and WTF decided fuck was a naughty word FFS! It's a good old fashioned English word as is bloody..short for the blood of Christ or something similar..people can say sausages with more venom that a swear word...just another way to control you...this is naughty..this is nice.
For Christians, the Holy Spirit convicts us when something unwholesome comes out of our mouths. Most “swears” are said with a negative tone, that’s one main reason why we don’t wish to say them.
Dennis Prager makes an extremely compelling case that “using the Lord’s name in vain” actually means committing acts of evil but saying that God told you to do it, or that you are doing it in the name of God.
You mean you think it's wrong to get angry when you are mistreated do you. Think we should turn the other cheek like the kazarian Bible tells you to do you?
Think the holy spirit translated from the word roach means holy spirit and not the elhomins alien craft gliding above the water and land ready to fire. brimstone at do you?

It started out as a slow drip and gradually increased over time. It was designed so that you'd barely even notice.

That's a new take. I'll check it out later.

Totally fooled by the kazarians aren't you?
I never said any of that. Thanks for playing, there’s no prize for rubes.
