As a lifelong horse racing fan (grew up in between Louisville and Lexington KY) this race was INSANE to watch. This horse gets in the day before, goes off at 80-1 odds, hangs back a bit then weaves through the horses like it was I65 rush hour and WINS in the final furlong. Second biggest odds in Derby history behind 1913 Donerail (91-1)
Erhaab in the '94 UK Derby was the most impressive I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeAboRA2q7Q&t
Coolest thing - Rich Strike looks to his right at the two horses ahead of him and beside him (#1 and #2 at that point) and then, as he passes them, looks straight ahead and pulls out in front for the win.
I’m screenshotting your comment. Amazing. Other horse was a 911! Interesting!
What are the chances it was rigged then? Surely that can’t happen normally.
The horse that got scratched was one trained by D Wayne Lukas, and that man is a GOD in the horse racing business. Dude's been training longer than I've existed on this planet (I'm a 45 yr old ladypede) Derby winning horse ownet/trainer/jockey are all first time Derby winners. 80-1 odds means a $2 win ticket, I'd have to go find the numbers, but you'd be getting back something like $160. That's a LOT of dough to pay out. The more exotic bets were even crazier. Horse racing has taken a huge hit with last yr's Derby getting disqualified cause of a banned substance so they needed a feel good story but THIS? I can't see this being rigged cause everything is under a super huge microscope right now.
1973, I watched as Secretariat ran and won the Derby, then the Preakness and then THE BELMONT! 💥
