No longer a fetus if outside the womb. 21 weeks is roughly 5 months gestation. We're getting so close to babies being only half-way through their growth inside the womb and being able to survive outside of it.
It's not always very good survival though... There are often lifelong complications to a baby being born so premature. There's lots of heart, lung, and other development that still isn't fully completed, a baby isn't mature until 9 months after all. At a minimum the baby would be in a neonatal ICU for months on end to keep the baby alive. It's incredible what modern medicine can do... Except most people on this board despise the very modern allopathic medicine that allows for such premature babies to survive. A premature baby, especially one so premature as pictured, would not survive without all the science and medicine that goes into caring for a baby In a NICU.
Doesn't matter if the chances of survival are low. We as adults have a duty and obligation to protect and keep our children alive, it is in our nature.
Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should.
This can serve to demonstrate viability, but I would bet it has some mental and physical health struggles in its future. That isn't just early, it is very early.
