Calling all expert plane fags (I’m a real amateur at this stuff). I’ve had a heli cruise past my house tonight 3 times. Doesn’t show up on any flight radar sites. Seems to be flying fairy low and fast. We live near an airport but this is abnormal activity. It turned directly over my house twice

When they start shining spotlights at your house, and red dots mysteriously appear on your sweatshirt, from through the kitchen window.....make sure you have an exit strategy.
I’m going out like Swiss cheese.
Go bag and a plan
Oh no! i live near an airport tooooooo! Reeeeeee!
For the last few months, weve had regular mil heli fly so low, at least a few days a week. We are outdoors a lot watching birds so are always looking up, my kids even expect now to see the mil heli (and the c-trails) regularly. We have pics and vid of how loud bc theyre so so low. My kids are little thru teen and they all know this is started recently, but now happens often. We were just discussing tho how LOW they are.
I did get video but it really only effectively depicts the noise. It was hard to focus and they were making a fast pass when I did have my camera out.
Fairy low? That's low; if they scare off all the West Hollywood fairies, it might be a good thing.
Seriously though, this stuff is great. I have been getting lots of military helicopters in my area, flying fairly low. I've seen Apaches, Blackhawks, Bell hueys, even Chinooks a while back. Absolutely not normal times. Slowed down for awhile, but picked up again recently. I can't help you, but look up the images so you can ID them by their silhouette. At night I don't bother, but I can tell by the volume and chop-chop pattern that they're military. West Los Angeles.
Typically Military helicopters will be flying low, ultra low flying is where they mostly operate (50ft and below) because it's the safest place to be in operations. Even NVG (night vision goggles) flying is typically at 200ft for transits, and even under power lines is practiced.
Because of terrain masking they also won't show up on ADSB because of height.
Do they transit higher, sure because of airspace control and different types of training, but low is the goal in real ops.
Thank you!!!!! This is incredibly insightful.
No problem.
