You'd be surprised, theater near where I live (Olympia Washington) I've seen the parking lot totally packed way more often as of late. I think a lot of people are kind of in "let's do absolutely anything outside of the house mode" after 2 years of lockdowk nonsense.
A while back, there were news stories about theatres being pissed at Hollywood production companies (EG: Disney) for snubbing them, and making their films go straight to streaming.
So this could be the theatre's hail marry to become profitable again.
I have a feeling that the movie theaters are pissed off at the powers that be. They are facing an existential crisis.
They had to sell popcorn to keep afloat. They are just as pissed as the rest of the world.
Maybe the theater owners have been notified
