One additional thing to know about solar and wind generators is that they take more energy to produce than they will ever deliver back to the grid before they reach end of useful life.
Now do recycling.
With few exceptions like paper and aluminum, it involves far more energy, cost, and incredible amounts of pollution than not recycling.
True, and that's why there are dead wind farms with their ugly wind generators decaying away. It's very expensive to get rid of those 300 foot towers.
Yes, just another scam; paper, cardboard, aluminum, and glass are the overwhelming majority of what CAN be recycled.
Even most plastics that are marked as recyclable are only 'theoretically' recyclable and only get diverted to a landfill. Any clear plastic or 'soft' plastic might as well go to the garbage (think product packaging).
Was funny how I found out, was at the local mall and see the janitor grabs the garbage-only bag, puts it in the bin, open the bag larger and puts the paper and plastic-only bags into the garbage bag, close it, and moves on to the next one...
Oddly, that criticism will hold little weight, even though it's a valid argument. There are so many reasons why solar is being pushed in the most absurd ways possible.
One that manages to trip up many greenies is when you mention that for a solar power plant to operate, it needs a connected turbine ready to maintain output if some clouds show up. The reason is that most of them don't understand that to provide power to the grid is essentially in a contract along the lines of "from x time to y time, you will supply ___ MW of power." Where if the solar array is 1 MW short, that generator needs to be on standby to make up the difference.
Very true. When the solar array feeds into the grid, there are generators that can ramp up to pick up the slack when clouds pass over the solar panels. It is difficult for grid operators to maintain consistent high quality power when solar is part of the mix.
There's also the factor that the grid management puts renewable energy on the lowest priority for inclusion into the grid. (Although that might have changed some since I was looking into that topic)
Unfortunately, due to CA government requirements, Utilities have to purchase solar and wind energy as part of their renewable portfolio at prices that are triple the cost of ‘dirty’ energy. See who makes money from this crap and you’ll know why it’s still around. Search ‘Hunter Biden and solar energy and wind energy.’ The crooks are making money while the customers get screwed.
