What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
Went to my final graduation ceremony as an educator (I'm retiring).
Student of the Year is now the person with the largest social justice arsenal. Had to listen to this SOY harangue all guests about gun control, Roe v Wade, climate change "believe the science", disproportionate violent treatment of African Americans by police, "we have to get loud, angry and active", yada yada. Half my staff fist pumping the air and loud "YEAH's". It made me both sad for the ignorance and loss of innocence of this youthful age group, and disgusted with my colleagues for sticking their heads in the sand still.
Anyway, wish me happy retirement! I used to think I could make a difference in that environment. Now, running for the school board as a retiree just may do that!
I believe the half of the staff that were so vigorously agreeing were merely seeing their own reflected teachings. It is unfortunate, but many teachers are busy teaching social justice and discussing their opinions on what the world should be, rather than the subjects they are entrusted to teach. While I don't mind teachers expressing their personal opinions, that is healthy and natural, it is best to entertain all sides of a topic. I believe the problem is the one-sided discussions where dissent is oppressed that is the actual problem. Do you remember debate exercises where you develop an argument and defended it and then switched sides and argued for your debate partners point of view? I think this opens the mind to the pros and cons of each view and expands the reasoning and understanding of the students. Perhaps it is time to bring this back?
I sympathise. All we can do is wait for it all to come out and for the trials to start. Get on that board, you are sorely needed - voice of sanity and reason.
