MonkeyWerx host has been commenting for a long time about strange flight ops by USN P8's over the land mass of the continental U.S., in particular out of NAF Jacksonville and flying over southeastern U.S.
He has noted as many as 8 birds up simultaneously flying racetrack patterns over land, not water. Last time I checked not too many submarines in Atlanta.
"The Boeing P-8 Poseidon (formerly Multimission Maritime Aircraft) is an American maritime patrol aircraft developed and produced by Boeing Defense, Space & Security, modified from the 737-800ERX. It was developed for the United States Navy (USN)."
The P-8 operates in the anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) roles.
MonkeyWerx posts Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on a routine basis, and will post if something important pops up.
Worth your while, particularly from this time forward, to start watching now so that by the time the balloon goes up you will understand the terminology and the state of the art graphics and analysis he provides.
It had a small but very, very dedicated cadre starting to develop right after the election, beginning with tracking all the activity during the airlift of the National Guard to Washington DC for the inauguration...
Esprit and camaraderie was high... lots of knowledgeable active duty and retired contributing.
Mods shut it down hard... I mean sledge hammer hard.
Threats of banning, etc....

Thanks !
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sounds about right
thanks
P8s have magnetic anomaly detectors and a host of other semsors. I Wonder if they are mapping something, maybe they can detect tunnels?
Ground penetrating radar and sensors share technical operating parameters of salt water / water penetrating radar and sensors.
Also, thermal sensors will detect hot spots associated with bunkered facilities.
Lots and lots of goodies on the P8.
Not your granddaddy's P3.
Link to Monkey Werx site highly recommended for those who want to come up to speed.
Makes me think of this...

And the scene [I think] from Narcos when they pulled in the airplane to detect the drug cartel whereabouts near a bar/restaurant

Monkey Werx tracks and reports deployment of these as well.
You get 6 or 7 of these babies up in the right areas and you have coverage of the lower 48, southern Canada and northern Mexico.
Linked to sat networks, ground stations and airborne assets (manned and unmanned)... this is cast iron coverage.

Sad.
Truly! I guess it just never seemed to go anywhere but it was still fun
Didn't someone post a day or so ago about MW spouting off about there is no Q?
