Can't the Pope or a Cardinal fire him or kick him out of the church? The Pope is supposed to be chosen by God or devine or something right? Seems like there would employment consequences.

I believe he no longer holds any official position within the Catholic Church. Maybe they figure ex-communicating him would validate his claims?
