What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
Just venting. If this comment does not fit what this post is intended for. I will delete.
Shit, the entire world around us is corrupt and fake. I just spent some time watching some Marketplace segments, (a Canada thing). One story investigated "Can you trust online reviews." Maybe this is old news to some, but I just learned that a large number of internet reviews are bought and paid for. There are businesses that will for a price conjure up positive fake reviews for any product. Google, Yelp, and one of the others say they try to weed out fake reviews, but the investigation shows different.
Another segment investigates supermarket products, mislabeling, dishonest packaging/advertising. Nothing is real it seems. Fish in the store labeled as Cod was actually some cheaper fish. And Orange Juice that was pitched as fresh is actually stored in vats for more than a year, and flavor is re-added before it is sold. Meat sold in stores is mechanically tenderized which pushes ecoli bacteria down inside meet. 2/3 of Chicken sold had salmonella that was antibody resistant.
Another segment was on appliances. Similar to there being only a few companies behind all news organizations, there is only a hand full of companies that make all brands of appliances. These companies have no incentive to make dependable products because they own all the brands. and they intentionally make replacement parts so expensive that you will justify buying an entire new unit. Also they engineer the products to only last a short time.
On and on, and on. Big corporations are F'ing us in the butt. I don't know of there is enough time in one life to awaken to the entire shitshow.
I think this is totally the place for this... General comments, pretty much anything goes I think.
I don't think we need to wake them, just be there if they do awaken and freak out, so they don't harm others or themselves
The product issue you raise is called "Planned Obsolescence". You can look it up, but it's basically what you've described.
Corporate structures are based on shareholder (monetary) value which has, since probably the 1960s or so, detached itself from any semblance of basic decency.
The online reviews issue has been blatantly obvious for years.
Going forward, financial incentives need to be tempered with decency and, frankly, sanity.
I'm probably considerably older than you so I don't expect our ideal world, so to speak, to materialize before my days here are over, but we can all work towards these ideals and accomplish what we can to leave ensuing generations with a much better world.
Being passionate about raising standards of decency and demanding people and companies do the right thing is a wonderful quality. Focus that passion and energy on creating a brighter future... Once we all get through the upcoming storm.
