This is something I've told my own kids about the aftermath of a SHTF disaster.
The most dangerous times are just BEFORE people run out of food and within the first 4-weeks of running out of food. Keep in mind that, during those 4 weeks, people will steal from each other, eat dogs & cats and zoo animals, eat anything remotely edible and eventually kill others for the last remaining food. Eventually, there is absolutely nothing left.
Starving people quickly become too weak to riot, loot and roam around looking for food. They die. The few organized groups that still have food and weapons are on borrowed time until they too are in the same situation. The workers who provided clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity, food, etc... are all in survival mode (if they survived at all). Services break down to nothing.
Within 60 days, 1/3rd of people are starving (or worse). 1/3rd are affected by water borne diseases or unsanitary conditions and are in bad health. Only about 1/3rd will still be physically active but in declining health. The tipping point happens quickly. The situation escalates that fast.
When idiots are in charge of your government... things like this happen. Joe Biden was elected?
Which is why it pays to own firearms and have certain skills that most people don't bother learning. A positive mindset even during the toughest times helps, too. So does having plenty of ammo and the willingness to use it.
Which is why I make sure I stay trained up and have learned the skills necessary for my family's survival. My kids are learning those skills, too.
Fill the bathtubs when the power goes out. Also your water heater is a giant fresh water tank sitting right there. Milk jugs filled with water in the freezer is good too (crush it slightly because it will expand). You can use it to keep food in a cooler for a while then drink it when it’s melted.

Damn, I never thought about the poor Zoo animals. I love seeing the giraffes when we drive by, now I will see them as food.......
Look up what happened to the zoos in Venezuela.
The zoo animals were killed and eaten by the locals.
That happens after the most obvious animals are already gone. Dogs and cats go first, then rats, birds, horses... and eventually zoo animals.
