Eh, this is taking things a little too far by playing God.

I raised Duroc-Tamworth cross pigs once. Duroc is a heritage breed that makes juicy red meat that looks almost like beef but from a pig. Tamworth is a breed that has much longer belly area - belly = bacon. So you get several pounds more juicy bacon from a Duroc-Tamworth than from a regular Duroc. That's a genetic modification, done outside the lab.

This is not genetic modification, this is crossbreeding.

CRISPR injects genetic sequences designed by man into existing organisms.

With crossbreeding you have 2 animals that are already sexually compatible produce an offspring that is a mix of the 2 parents.

The difference is that when you crossbreed pigs, for example, the genetic material already existed since God created pigs, you've just arranged the mating to get a specific subset of pig DNA that in this case makes better bacon. That combination of pig DNA has likely never been seen before, but it was always possible within the realm of God's creation through natural processes. But you can't crossbreed a pig and a chicken to get bacon flavored eggs, because pigs and chickens are not sexually compatible.

With CRISPR you can take something like the frost-resistant genetic material from a fish and inject that into a strawberry seed to get frost-resistant strawberries. God never intended for fish and strawberries to interbreed, and we know this because fish and strawberries are not sexually compatible. So maybe we get a super-fruit out of this experiment. Or maybe we create some kind of Frankenstein monster by breaking the barriers that God has constructed.
