In case anyone doesn’t know, Mel Gibson was born in NY, Peekskill specifically. About 50 miles north of NYC. Many people think he’s from Oz.
I thought he was from Oz, so you are saying he just spent some of his youth down under?
What I read decades ago is that the father moved the whole family to Oz so that his sons wouldn’t be drafted into the Viet Nam war.
His father emigrated to Australia in 1968 to protect his eldest son from the US military draft and for economic reasons. Mel was twelve at the time.
