Personal freedom vs big powerful state certainly does exist, even if right vs left may be a bit simplified, it certainly represents what's going on to a reasonable degree.

I get what you're saying about personal freedom vs big state. I just don't call it right vs left anymore since many of our representatives on the right have shown us that they're just the other side of the same coin. And that coin has been slowly moving closer and closer towards totalitarianism.
