It's not technically a split. It's a dividend wherein the company issues 3 extra shares for each one an entity holds. Calling it a split would be incorrect, but it is similar to one.

Gamestop's SEC filing 7/6/22 says:
Board of Directors has approved and declared a four-for-one split of the Companyβs Class A common stock in the form of a stock dividend.
The stock dividend will be distributed after the close of trading on July 21, 2022. Trading will begin on a stock split-adjusted basis on July 22, 2022.
Is it a stock SPLIT ... OR ... a stock DIVIDEND?
They are not the same thing, and the language they are using is self-contradictory.
Weird.
Divident.
Splitvidend
It's a split in the form of a dividend. They're giving everyone who holds GME shares 3 extra for every 1.
How is it a split then?
