What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
Always are, with the possible exception of Dune.
Oh BTW I kinda forgot about the Sci-Fi channel Dune series. For people who haven't read the book it basically hits the high points and is far more intelligible than the DL version. Of course it is very low-budget and the same "battle with explosion montage" reused like 20 times is pretty comical.
Thing that made me think of it is your mention of characters, I thought they did a good job with Baron Harkonnen and his preversions - I guess it was made just long enough ago that this was still acceptable (my understanding is this aspect was totally sanitized in the recent movie version).
The thing is there's simply no way, no matter how good the movie version is, that all the politics/philosophy/etc could really be in the movie, so it's not even close....
Now one exception to the trend is Blade Runner - the book ("Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick for those unaware) is really kind of a weird mess IMO.
The only Philip K book I ever fully liked was "Humpty Dumpty in Oakland".
But I think he was given info - lot of predictive programming in his books.
Oh I agree, I think Dick is way overrated. (You gals may disagree, har har.)
I do need to get a copy of Total Recall on DVD as Verhoeven's brand of "you think you're over the top, hold my beer" is fantastic.
That's what I thought too about the movie. It made the book a bit pale in comparison.
Dune movie was great, no doubt, but the books, atleast the first 2 were fantastic.
Loved Dune the book. Have you read Ender's Game? That series will take your mind off the scene for a while. Also recommend Louis L'Amour for healthy comfort-food reading.

If you guys loved Ender's Game, I highly recommend its little known sequel: Speaker for the Dead. Its nothing like the Enders game but is probably one of the best books I have read.
Ooo Thank you. I've added it to my list!👌
I did, I never wanted to love a book so much that I just couldn't track. Enders game was one of my favorites, I really tried.
Agreed.
Ender's was so damn good... It's been more than a decade, I need to read it again🐸
Love enders game, both of them. Card actually said he thought the movie improved on the story. Drake's Leary series is my go to for quality distraction.
