I have had discussions with people in my area regarding where all the workers are. (I believe this has had some discussion on this board) The workers left various service jobs during covid and received unemployment or other means of government support, but that has ended, yet, they haven't gone back to work. We wonder where they are getting their money now? But that is assuming they are still alive! What if there has been such a significant increase in the death rate in the U.S. that it is actually affecting the employee pool? I plotted the number of obituary pages per time for my local newspaper, back to Dec 2019 (they cut off the pages prior to about mid Dec 2019), and found that the trend has been about the same this year, as during the covid years, with one six month period in 2020 showing a higher rate. I hope someone can do a similar analysis for their local online newspaper. Granted, the pages of obituaries aren't an exact match to the number of deaths, since some obituaries are many paragraphs, and others are almost nothing, but it should all average out, unless there has been a change in the amount people submit.
keep in mind due to the moving population bubble (baby boomers) there are about 11,500 people a day, that is 24/7 365 leaving the work force....sad part this is the experienced people.....the economy was built to accommodate this amount of people ...what is going to happen at the bottom of the hill?? we are just beyond the peak now....whos going to be left to buy all these houses or cars or anything else....
I'm mainly referring to the support staff positions (supporting the business owner); waiters/waitresses, cooks, stock people, warehouse workers, etc. Most of the "help wanted" targets. Those people were barely getting by before covid, and now, if they aren't working, where are they and what are they doing? If alive.
In my area they can't get by on what those jobs are paying. Rent for a one bedroom is $1200-$1500 a month around here. I think some are living with relatives rather than bust their butts for no payoff. I know a lot that are working remote rather then doing time clock jobs. I think in my area, blue collar petite have been priced out of the market. High school kids can only work after school, unless they're homeschooled like my kids. ☺️ Contrary wise, my comp sci graduate cannot find a job and she of her classmates have given up to get their CDL. I know that Ed Dowd said they're is 61,000 in excess deaths among working age people. My 18 year old just took over a job from a 22 year that died of a massive heart attack on the job.😥 So yeah, that's going to make some sort of impact. Those are my observations.
I'd like to know if there is an increase in disability payments.
