Wake the F up people these places are always hot in summer. i live in one of the hottest cities in Australia. We dont drop dead when it gets hot. BUT I can remember certain people being advised to wear certain socks etc on plane travel, years ago. I cant imagine what harm is being caused by flying with what we now know about the vax.
It's a good idea to wear those flying socks once you get "mature" I don't think there's any particular age but blood flow slows as you get older. Even young people could get unlucky if they are genetically susceptible.
I'm near London UK and we also had the heat wave. 40C is a big deal for us because air-conditioning is non-existent in people's residences.
The heatwave was caused by an air mass from north Africa. It has now moved on and we are back to normal temperatures it's low 20s here today which is average for July. Mainland Europe probably still got some.
tl;dr Heatwave is fake news and a nothingburger.
I have been to London during a heat wave, and I can confirm what you're saying. All the restaurants had to move their tables out to the sidewalks to keep going because it was too hot inside the buildings, none of which had air conditioning.
Since the tactics of the "we're-all-gonna-die" climate doomers have remained consistent, the number of deaths is probably an exaggeration to get the most fear traction out of it for their global warming narrative (climate change narrative when it's not warm). Even so, it does encourage a bit of Yankee pride. I grew up in Florida without air conditioning in dark ages before the internet and mobile phones, and I don't remember hearing any reports of people dying. In summer, the only news was that it was very hot and would remain that way until October, when it would be less hot.
Compression socks. They squeeze the fluid back into the vessels to be returned to the upper body more efficiently for circulation. I sit on my ass all day working and I started to notice my ankles were retaining fluid, I’m fairly lean and can actually feel the excess fluid when I move my feet, it’s annoying as shit.
They are beneficial in a few ways and I always recommend them to people I see retaining fluid on their ankles and people who run or hike long distances. You can gain an appreciable amount of lower body recovery and stamina with just a pair of tall socks, definitely worth the investment.
And yes, another reason people need them is due to congestive heart failure. The heart becomes incapable of pumping hard enough to get that circulation accomplished. Fluid retention in the feet can definitely be a warning sign that cardiac issues are developing, especially if that fluid retention occurs at night when you are laying flat.
As someone who grew up in south Florida, where half the population is retired people, and summer temps are easily 95-100f with 100% humidity, I never understand why heat kills people in Europe. I see these old guys playing golf and shuffleboard in the middle of summer here. Yea it’s hot and it sucks, but they aren’t dying. It’s just gross, not lethal.
Does no one have air conditioning so they get stuck indoors and die like they are in an oven? That’s the only thing I can think of.
Lol. DVT was a thing forever ago when I used to fly a lot for business. Those compression socks came about and were advertised a bunch for long haul flights.
