From article:
Democratic Presidential candidate Andrew Yang, has definitively broke with the Democratic Party as he became one of the founders of a new third party, “Forward”.
The party was founded by both former Republican and Democratic officials.
Dozens of former Republican and Democratic officials announced on Wednesday a new national political third party to appeal to millions of voters they say are dismayed with what they see as America’s dysfunctional two-party system.
The new party, called Forward and whose creation was first reported by Reuters, will initially be co-chaired by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey. They hope the party will become a viable alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties that dominate U.S. politics, founding members told Reuters.
Analysts say the Green Party’s Ralph Nader siphoned off enough votes from Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore in 2000 to help Republican George W. Bush win the White House.
Public reaction on Twitter was swift. Many Democrats on the social media platform expressed fear that the new party will siphon more votes away from Democrats, rather than Republicans, and end up helping Republicans in close races
Good and interesting points. I just can't shake the feeling that this is a clown-op, so I'm trying to figure out who benefits and why. So, a progressive center-left faction is breaking away from the DNC? Is it because the stench of DNC policies have gotten too bad to propagandize out of? A Yang/Gabbard ticket, maybe? It's confusing to me, for now. I've never been Left, though. 🤔
Thanks for the BTS of the democrat party. Very enlightening.
If Yang decided to do this of his own volition, and it's not part of some high-level op, he put a huge target on his back. He'll be the democrat Ross Perot, a renegade billionaire that bucks the party establishment. It's very out of character for the DNC, though. I can understand Independent Bernie running under the Dem banner, but Dem Yang running under the Independent banner leaves me scratching my head about what he's really up to, and who he's serving.
Great post! As a former left-leaning person and later a Ron Paul supporter I feel that you're VERY much on the mark with much of what you've written. All that I would add is that 'Bernie' and 'Yang Gang' folks should NOT be thought of as a small representation of people - the significant traction of each on the Internet early on in the cycles was major amounts of younger intelligent (usually male) voters who understood good and well both parties had been fucking us for a long time and we were living in a hopelessly backward political environment in need of fresh ideas.
Had those coalitions been allowed to fully bloom and metastasize from the nascent Internet backing into real primary elections the way it did in Trump's '16 run we could have seen the actual breadth and scope that a candidate like Yang had managed. Unfortunately the Democrats version of "primaries" is the most undemocratic cheating bullshit ever and decided almost entirely by the opinions of major donors, party masterminds and superdelegates which they translate into the "primary winner" by cheating before the general electorate can even participate.
But you had literal celebrities coming out for Yang like Chappelle and others. When does that happen that they don't simply tow the line? He could've made waves which is why he wasn't allowed to of course.
This whole Forward thing intrigues me greatly because I've listened to Yang and his frustrations with the Dems, and it does seem earnest and in keeping with his character. Yet there is just teeming amounts of potential for this to be a fucking sleazy glow-op here that I don't know what to make of it.
Specifically, the potential Yang voters when he ran had the greatest crossover with Trump voters. Mostly at the younger age group. That information has been heavily suppressed but I remember reading it. I was one, in that category of mostly younger people, because Yang has ideas that are good for blue collar and young working people - and thus antithetical to the Dems and Rinos - and if anyone would put them into practice other than Yang it would've been Trump. So a lot of Yang people actually swung to Trump instead of staying blue. Also first time voters in the presidential election there too. So Trump actually benefitted by them stymieing Yang more than any Dem.
So putting him in his own little category to absorb that hit instead of helping Trump makes a lot of sense if you're the Dem establishment.
Also I remember Brett Weinstein had a 3rd party platform he was trying to bring to life in 2020 and they just completely destroyed it with Internet censorship. It was bad for business on both sides. So we shall see if they try the same tactics against Forward, my feeling if they do is that it was a real cause. However if they allow it to proceed and make waves without any legal actions or censorious behavior that would suggest to me they are trying to cull some of the former Bern bros and young Dems or libertarians that turned for Trump as a way to kill that energy.
Very interesting we shall see! Godspeed.
