This warmed my heart to hear. Keep it up. Acts and Romans are your friends.
Avoid Revalations at least for now. Sure, people say go for it, but it is so loaded with Prophecy, it really isn't for the beginner reader. At best it will confuse you. Worst it can frighten and turn you away. Needs to be read with discernment.
If you want a really good read, try Job (pronounced jobe, long o, silent e).
Talks about why evil is allowed to exist. Sad story, but bittersweet ending.
The living Bible is easy to read , it was once labeled the hippie Bible because it has down to earth easy words for teens or school drop outs like many of us ! It is easy to understand and it is a respected translation for youths and adults alike ! But the fact that you have a hunger is A man after Gods heart ! Ask the Lord to expand your reading comprehension. I've heard many testimonies from men who weren't able to read at all and God taught them himself He opened their minds to the mind of Christ and taught them to read overnight, amazing testimonies.
You blessed my heart , God bless you my friend, we are all His children , go to Him as one , He's our father and will teach you His word . Please keep us posted on your progress as you search His word!
I would say NIV. Very easy to understand. And if you get a study version, you will have help understanding the more difficult passages, and will learn some theology! Nothing is more important than reading the Bible. It's the bedrock of faith. And wonderfully comforting and inspiring.
Of those, IMO, the NLT may be the easiest to read, and the NIV would be the next. People around here get tied up a bit about which version to use, but just remember, they are ALL translations, so stick with one or two for now and go from there.
The original Holy Bible was written over many years in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Translations were written at different periods in history. The English language has changed over the years, therefore the translations are different. That is ok. Just keep reading and leave the theology debates to the theologians for now.
For what it's worth, as u/mickmacdaddy said, don't avoid any book.
Reading, languages, they are all skills or compound skills. You'll improve by doing, and as an additional bonus reading is shown to improve your cognitive function later in life, and stave off dementia and Alzheimer's.
I have even read shitty teen girl books like Twilight. Exercising skills and allowing yourself to imagine and picture will improve many aspects of life, and also improve your mental health to boot.
We are meant to imagine. Reading gives us more material to imagine from. Doesn't have to be a good book, so long as it has some connection to your interests in some fashion.
I also.. though I have read the bible in the past.. rereading it helped me understand both whats happening and the bible itself..
I enjoy the Book of Isiah..
I AM a doomer.. or at least I am until I get some Dave.. then Im ok again.. thats the magic OF Dave...

NIV is easy reading usually.. and I never found much fault in their translations/updates..

Add Ecclesiastes to your list. On face value,c writer appears like the ultimate doomer so you need to look for the deeper meaning of the book.
