Dear GAW community members, mods.

What an awesome site this is. Although there are numerous limitations on the board and the .win structure, functions, etc, those limitations are blasted away by the great quality of the content, the posting, and the tireless efforts of our mod teams and community pedes.

The Challenge

A fren just asked me about how to get a pepe on his/her name. I mentioned the recent post by the mod team, explaining the new upgraded pepe policy, but quailed at the prospect of wading through the posts to dig it up, as I have no recollection of WHO posted it or what the title was.

#1. One of the challenges facing GAW users is the fact that the functions are limited, and that we come from different time zones. So, when you normally have a STICKY section that tends to fluctuate between 5 and 15 stickies at any one time, it OFTEN happens for those in the less popular time zones that a sticky will come and go and ne'er been seen for what it is. Sure, you can read down the HOT section or the TOP section to check, but it's not quite the same.

(Compare with the old reddit GA, where you had a massive board, the sticky section was up to 50+ posts, so this was not that much of an issue.)

#2. Next, regarding functions, our .win has the SAVE post/comment function, which I've been making some use of, but it seems to me that it would be awesome to have some way that the community, including newbies and other pedes, can access the more 'housekeeping' type posts and announcements from the mods at ANY time, without wading through days and weeks of posts.


And so, a Modest Proposal

(with two different options)

1. Create a MOD ANNOUNCEMENT account

Create a MOD ANNOUNCEMENT user account under which mod announcements are made, so that all such announcements and publishings can be easily accessed by anyone going to the POST section for that ONE user account. The account could be identified by a text in the SIDEBAR (under RESOURCES) for newcomers, etc., and such a user account would very likely become well known to the board generally over time.

With such a MOD ANNOUNCEMENT account, the whole board, including newbies or frens, could very easily see, review and follow up on things, instead of each board member saving such announcements individually, from different mods, if they even catch the announcement, that is!!!.

2. Create an ANNOUNCEMENT thread

Create an ANNOUNCEMENT thread that can be stickied at the head of the board, temporarily or by need. Comments would be restricted to MODS, similarly to the POLL posts we've had a few of recently. The comments would be used by MODS to add the BODY of posted announcements in the regular feed by copy/pasta, so that there is always an easy go-to thread for anyone wanting to catch up, follow up, or check mod announcements and housekeeping content posted by the mod team.

Board members would ONLY have to save that one thread in their save section in order to be able to instantly and conveniently go to see any past announcements.

While either of these option (or both) would likely generate a little more work for our mods in the set up (we thank you mods!), but I suspect it might add another useful component to the board structure and the interactions of pedes, and especially newbies or the less frequent of visitors.
