So maybe a different take on it, I almost viewed it as a proactive defensive move on their part later on for gun control. I've seen alot pointing to cartel for Uvalde which the last thing they need people waking up to is that they've armed those cartel through programs like fast and girls AND have a wide open border. This allows them some positive cover on the airways with media masquerading as the deep commitment the dnc has to stopping border crime and gun violence. They'll try to frame it in the typical political unimaginative way (think Trump EO lowering insulin price > Biden day 1 quietly cancels it > runs on platform of being the white knight to lower insulin) where they'll position/ frame it as Trump not being strong enough to get it done, but Biden is. Plus I think it'd be an (poor) attempt in trying to circumvent the democrats are making things less safe but trying to take my guns away narrative.

In short a Trump victory that Biden will take credit for and pivot as a Trump weakness.
