What have they traditionally handed out in prior elections? A cheap black ink pen. Something that cannot be erased and does not bleed through the paper. It is really that simple. People have gotten conditioned into being handed a pen when they go to the polls. When handed a sharpie instead of the pen, they just assume that the sharpie will work - even though their gut tells them something is not right. Using sharpies is a deliberate attempt to change a few votes here, and a few votes there, by causing the ballot to be adjudicated. Thanks for asking for clarification. We need to get this word out. We have to stay ahead of them and never underestimate their ability to cheat.
Is it possible to have a sign and a table just outside the voting line warning about possible sharpie shannigans with a volunteer distributing the pens that'll work, or is that not allowed?
I think as long as people are a certain distance away from the polls, you cannot be stopped. The key is to get the word out anyway possible. But having volunteers handing out pens is good. Anything to take a few votes back from them.
