One of the most powerful desires in children is the desperate need to fit in and be accepted by their peers. Way too many children give in to peer pressure, and it takes a lot of courage to resist it. At that age, children haven't developed critical thinking skills nor the courage to be an individual.....so the post above make LOTS of sense.
Watched this happen time and time again in the public school I worked in.
Made a difference where I could - "You were born perfect, a masterpiece" was my mantra. "A great deal of what you hear in school is opinion, not fact. Go home and discuss it with your parents. What do YOU think"?
I think we are about to see the Public Education flipped over and emptied for a restart within the next 5 years. The children will be put first once again!
I have NO idea what all is being "taught" in schools today except to know that it's probably very bad. But "peer pressure" isn't taught, it is innate to the human condition. It's more of a drive... an urge... than anything that can be taught.
Put a kid in any social situation and he/she will want to fit in and be accepted. We are a social species, so it's ingrained into our DNA. Kids who think for themselves and don't buy into the same music, fashion, and doodads that their peers find so fascinating will soon find themselves ignored or ostracized. For a young person, that is the kiss of death. Kids at that age don't realize that there is a vibrant world outside their own limited reality of school and family.
That's also why grooming is so effective for young people at that age... they want so desperately to be accepted that they will literally do anything to get that acceptance. Even if that "acceptance" is from a trusted, but evil, adult in their world.
Not really. Most schools are all talk on all tbat anyways. Too many teachers are pro drug, pro promiscuity, pro sin. And zero accountability in most schools. On the most basics of things like, you cant fail a kid because the teacher didnt record their grades.

Thank you for fighting against the evil tide.

Exactly! I was the same way, a born contrarion.
Edit: Actually the spelling is CONTRARIAN.
