I saw a news segment just now on this and think it may be a better idea than states leaving the union. I think it is worth a try.

It's time for governors to ban the activities of the FBI in their States. Maybe it's time for the State government with their police powers to start arresting willy-nilly FBI agents residing in their State.

Every time I hear that, I think of someone at the FBI sitting in their office with law.cornell.edu opened of to part one of title 18 of the United States law code looking at all the different federal offenses while saying that phrase to an FBI agent that works under them

You said "state police", I didn't. I said state authorities. And they most certainly do have the right to arrest FBI agents that are breaking the law.

Wow. I did not know this. I'm interested. It appears you might be able to 'pull-the-trigger' with more info on this. Can you help?

Do federal agents automatically have the ability to operate or is it only by permission of the state? It would be a shame if no federal tax laws could be enforced.

Federal Agents have jurisdiction on only federal lands. The FBI is to get permission from the the Sheriff department before proceeding. I don't know if this is always the case. However, the Sheriff is the absolute top authority in the county.
