This one, John 4:8, got me: "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love."

When John says "God is love," he is not saying that love is a quality God has in His personality or an emotion He typically feels. It is saying Love is who God is. It is something fundamental in His very being. Therefore, of all the things we can do to do His will, acting in love will bring us the closest to it.
