To clarify from the beginning there was no biblical translated word as Jew. It was added in the modern NWO bibles to this day starting in the 18th century along with the word Semite. Both Satanic.
In the 1611 King James the word IEWE is used. It has a dual meaning of Judeans or Judahites. Judeans being residents of Judea and Judahites the tribe of Judah and that lineage to Christ.
To your point you are correct that the people hiding under the name Jew are not ancient Israelites. That being said even descendants of Jacob aka Israelites aren't God's chosen people just because of the blood line.
That being said Judea was known as land of the Edomites aka descendants of Esau whom God hated.
God's chosen people Spiritually have always been those believers of faith in him. It is quite beautifully spelled out in Ehesians 2 and Galatians 3
All the promises to Abraham were to one person the Christ and those believers in him.
Galatians 3:16 [16]Now to Abraham and his seede were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Also spoken through out the scriptures. Seek and you will find , let he who have ears hear. Do not mock the lord!
