I cant remember where it was but people suspected a human trafficking ring or something running there. Anyone got more info? I think a video game picture was shown? Comms?
Edit HOLY CANNOLI thank you for all the reminders...this was memory holed like vegas and those 17 second earthquakes or whatever.
National Solar Observatory - Sunspot. NM. - I live within 100 miles of there.
Oddly, the "official" stories all seem to be scrubbed from easy search except for what was covered in foreign sources.
I've spoken with someone that works there - they had no speculation as to why other than what they were told - a janitor was using their computers to transmit CP. Serious if really what happened, for sure - but do you send an FBI hostage rescue team in Blackhawks to raid the place to arrest one guy? The location is kind of remote but easily accessible by car.

Isn’t that a Vatican facility?
Not that I'm aware of - ran by a consortium of universities and funded in large part by the National Science Foundation.
Good memory / reminder. There were a number of incidences like that - a blip on the radar, and then it fades into nothing (or something else obscured it).
My Granddad was a logger in those mountains, and as I recall his attitude towards it was kinda like the fight club. 9/11 didn't even raise an eyebrow on him...
Cloudcroft, Timberon or Weed?
Cloudcroft.
They didn't want people observing the Sun. Something was going on that they didn't want people to see.
More likely something was going on in the Tularosa Basin, home to Holloman AFB and White Sands Missile Range - aka, WSMR (US Army Base and also the home of the Trinity site) - both of those installations would be easily observed from this Sunspot facility. WSMR has a very long runway that was an alternate/emergency landing spot for the Space Shuttle flights - It is also home of the HELSTF site were the US military does a lot of their laser testing. There is also a not so secret "secret" unnamed AF installation located on a NASA facility nearby, but there is a mountain range between that and Sunspot.
maybe the observatory was a blacksite and whitehats took it out before launching something from the AFB
Not likely a black site - easily accessible, no security to speak of, all employees are scientist or maintenance people, lots of college students doing projects there and they give tours for anyone that wants to go. I think more likely they wanted it vacant so something going down at Holloman or WSMR would not be observed. Sunspot sits at top of mountain peak that overlooks basin were military based are.
Yea I remember that! Was it a ship of sorts?
Went Hush Hush
Entrance to a deep underground base.
Sounds like a classified leak was plugged.
I thought they were Chinese spies.
