If i am sitting at my desk with the laptop open but not awake. Black screen. Without touching anything, it comes to life. Is something accessing my camera or something nefarious happening here? It just started doing this maybe a few weeks ago and it seem to be happening more often.

So the really hard part about IT support is it can be any number of things without more information.
That behavior is abnormal but it could be as simple as your touchpad is overly sensitive and getting false positive movement.
My suggestion is run a virus and spyware scan if you're concerned.
My printer does the same thing, maybe for 2 months now- everyday around 4:14 it fires up for some reason. Now when I hear it I check the time and usually the same time of day. Don't know why?
Maybe it's in sync with the federal reserve printers.
Hummm 🤔
Waking up for 4:20...
KEK
My printer randomly turns on to do a clean cycle.
My printer does this... I've always thought that it was doing something so as to keep the toner "fresh"... if that makes sense.
If you use an external mouse, slight vibrations could be waking it from sleep. Scheduled automatic updates (thanks Windows...........) could also be a culprit. I believe most if not all modern laptops have a light by the camera that turns on when it's in use. Not saying it couldn't be hacked to NOT do that, but if it really concerns you so much you can stick a band-aid over the lens. The cotton pad will help prevent scratching so you can use it if/when you need.
You found the ghost in your machine? 🤯
Oh no! And I can't put it back
A live chicken swung around your head, counterclockwise, three times will it!
If you have some type of update that runs every day, it might turn on to do that update. What happens if you don't touch it? Does it go back to sleep on its own?
One thing you might do is turn off your wifi/internet in the house (or whatever signal your computer is using) and then see if you get an error message when it turns on, such as "Such and such program unable to update due to no access to the internet" (although the message won't say that exactly).
Yes someone is accessing it remotely! Or, the fan is messed up and it shuts down when the Laptop gets hot! One other thing would be the Video card messed up!
It could be configured to wake on LAN (network activity).
