Educator here!
This is appalling and a shame on the teacher's union of California.
Children need every chance and opportunity they can get to catch up after the last two years of non-stop bullshit getting in the way of their education.
I am witnessing a marked two year gap in reading levels across the board, and students were already behind going into 2020. Many students in my area are a good 4 - 5 years behind! That is not an understatement.
This is situational design. The government wants to keep our kids dumb so that they can easily be controlled and manipulated. This is a crime against humanity, and the children of America.
Rest assured there are good teachers out there! We can only do so much though, especially in the face of a multi-year skill gap created by an unconstitutional state of martial law. We need parent involvement. Please get involved in your local school board, and call your Representatives and your state's Department of Education to voice your concerns about the growing gap in reading, writing, and math skills.
Parents have the power in education, and the School Boards and Departments of Education do not want you to know that!
Some industries. You can reliably justify unionization.
Industrial Work can be hot, dangerous, and expose workers to health problems. A Union may be justified there.
Teaching?. You deal with kids all day and can reasonably work literally everywhere in the country. You get to be an air conditioned classroom. And barring the inner city schools. Your Job is comparatively safer then most others. A Union doesn’t particularly serve a purpose. Other then to squeeze more money for paychecks out of a City or School District. That and prevent shit teachers from being fired.
The amount of shit the Teachers Union’s get brushed under the rug is frankly disturbing.
From article:
Kids in Los Angeles have had it rough since 2020, kicked out of school to lie on their couches pretending to pay attention to Zoom for a full year and a half during the pandemic. Even when they were allowed back, they faced a host of vaccine mandates, mandatory mask requirements, and (useless) plexiglass barriers everywhere.
Now, the ever-helpful LA teachers union (United Teachers Los Angeles, or UTLA) has voted to boycott the first of four planned voluntary extra learning days designed to help struggling students catch up. Mind you, teachers would be paid for these days, but that’s not good enough because they have other plans. Instead of instructing, they’re going to be holding a rally downtown to demand increased pay and a host of other items detailed in their “Beyond Recovery” platform.
Because, you know, it beats having to actually teach.
You can tell the union’s priorities just by looking at the header on their Twitter page, which is also featured at the top of this article. Does it show a teacher teaching? Does it show a kid learning? No, it shows a woman yelling into a bullhorn, presumably making all sorts of demands at a rally. It should come as no surprise then to discover that the union president, Cecily Myart-Cruz, is a radical who tried to keep schools closed as long as possible during the pandemic (going so far as to say that California’s re-opening plan in 2021 was “propagating structural racism”) and who continues to spout inflammatory rhetoric in the few interviews she now gives. Reporter Jason McGahan wrote in Los Angeles Magazine Friday:
“There is no such thing as learning loss,” she [Myart-Cruz] responds when asked how her insistence on keeping L.A.’s schools mostly locked down over the last year and a half may have impacted the city’s 600,000 kindergarten through 12th-grade students. “Our kids didn’t lose anything. It’s OK that our babies may not have learned all their times tables. They learned resilience. They learned survival. They learned critical-thinking skills. They know the difference between a riot and a protest. They know the words insurrection and coup.”

I worked for lausd for 29 years.. Unionistas are gross and mafioso like. They fired me for no vaccine. I'm glad. God is good.
You’re the smart one
"Beyond Recovery." Quite a few parallels with "Beyond Meat," including phoniness, inclusion of multiple unnecessary and unhealthy additives and an aversion by most with any common sense.
this is why more and more colleges and universities are forgoing standardized testing. the tests will demonstrate the lack of preparedness. Most students entering college need to take remedial math and or English but will not be put into those courses. This is also why we cannot get enough STEM students which is a national security problem. Unfortunately, these deficits impact low income students disproportionately and give ammo t the radicals who will couch all this is racial/ethnic terms.
