Yeah, that party-switching thing never made sense - when exactly? Dems wore white hoods and supported the KKK, and then stood proudly in school house doors keeping black kids out of schools, but those were actually Republicans, who fought the Civil War and freed slaves, so when exactly was this purported "party switch" again?
Don't forget that the national socialist workers party is now considered right wing.
Not only that but if you look at the votes for each of the civil rights acts the republicans were always in the high 90% while the democrats slowly went from 0% and eventually got to around 90%, they just learned that they could control black people another way.
