Most religious Starbucks customers pay through the app. It’s the only way to collect the rewards points and free items. So going cashless won’t phase them. They’ve been on the hamster wheel for a long time!
It's really convenient since eventually you earn a free coffee or can take the edge off customizations.
I'm not sure exactly what the solution is without a cultural shift. Clearly cafes need to improve their coffee game to meet the markets, but that will never resolve brand recognition or Starbucks' ability to drop prices deeply
A lot of independent coffee shops only take credit now too and even have their own app with rewards so this isn’t just Starbucks. It’s how they build a loyal customer base.
