The power company comes in and adds a radio-controlled switch to the unit, so they can shut the entire system down without touching the thermostat. We had one in another town for a while, but the retards wired it wrong so it didn't work. :) We don't have that here.
How can they directly monitor a thermostat? Sounds kinda Big Brother to me.

I'm wondering that as well, does the power company supply a thermostat or require you to have a smart thermostat and access to it?
