This is fascinating.
Heard the notion before that culture and tradition are solutions to a problem that persist long after the problem itself has been forgotten about? And if the culture is suppressed or discarded as obsolete, or no longer relevant, suddenly the problem it was a fix for manifests once again. Plenty of applicable examples all over culture where society and conventions are breaking down..
So in a sense the psych aspect is a double-edged sword, it can be used for good or ill. Enemies of course will use it for ill, but that doesn't mean its entirely without merit when used for a positive outcome.
